Common Conditions Treated with Laparoscopic Surgery: Hernia, Gallbladder, Appendix & More

Laparoscopic surgery, also called keyhole surgery, uses small incisions, a camera and specialized surgical instruments to diagnose or treat selected abdominal conditions.

Common conditions may include:

🔹 Hernia – Laparoscopic or robotic repair may be considered for suitable inguinal, ventral or other hernias after evaluation.

🔹 Gallbladder Problems – Laparoscopic gallbladder removal may be recommended for symptomatic gallstones and certain gallbladder conditions.

🔹 Appendicitis – Laparoscopic appendectomy is a commonly used approach for removing an inflamed appendix when appropriate.

🔹 Intestinal Conditions – Selected bowel conditions, including some intestinal blockages and tumors, may be treated using minimally invasive techniques.

Is laparoscopic surgery suitable for everyone?

Not always. The appropriate approach depends on the condition, anatomy, previous surgery, overall health and the surgeon’s clinical assessment.
